A man was taken into custody Monday afternoon after he pulled out a BB gun as President Barack Obama's motorcade passed by, according to Connecticut authorities.
Police noticed the man acting suspiciously, pacing back and forth, before he pulled out what looked like a rifle, Bloomfield police said. The man's name has not been released.
President Obama was in Connecticut Monday afternoon to meet with families who lost loved ones during the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December.
He later delivered an address at the University of Hartford, calling on Congress to bring new gun control propoals to a vote.
"Connecticut has shown the way, and now is the time for Congress to do the same — this week," Obama said in the speech, noting a sweeping gun law just enacted in the state.
Police said the man who was arrested on Monday was standing in an intersection a few miles away from the university, watching Obama's motorcade leave.
The exact charges that were filed and the suspect's name have not been released.
The man will be in court on Tuesday.
