An armed carjacker beat and shot a college student in Grand Prairie Wednesday morning.
The student in his 20's told investigators he'd been returning home from a late night at a local college when he got out of his car to go into his apartment in the 700 block of Timber Oaks Lane in Grand Prairie.
When he left his black Mercedes around 12:30 a.m., the student says an armed carjacker demanded his keys. The student says he fought back, dropping his laptop, and that the carjacker pistol whipped him in the head.
As the student ran to his apartment, the gunman reportedly chased after him and started shooting, hitting the student once in the thigh. The student managed to get into his apartment and call police.
Paramedics rushed the student to Parkland Hospital to be treated and he is expected to recover.
Police say the carjacker got away empty-handed. Officers are still searching for the shooter.
