A man has surrendered to police in Lewisville after a standoff in the restaurant early Tuesday morning.
A man has surrendered to police in Lewisville after a standoff in the restaurant early Tuesday morning.
Officers got a call to respond to a man acting suspiciously around 1 a.m. Tuesday at an IHOP Restaurant off of Interstate 35 E in Lewisville.
The man had reportedly been standing at the cash register and getting ready to leave before he saw police arrive and ran to the bathroom and barricaded himself inside.
SWAT units sent in a robot to monitor the situation, which discovered the man had moved from the bathroom into the rafters above the dining room. Police say they spotted evidence of broken ceiling tiles.
The man tried to surrender to police from the roof of the restaurant, but there was no way for him to come down safely. He went back inside and then came through the front doors and into police custody.
Police believe the man is wanted for aggravated kidnapping, robbery, and possibly another robbery that occured Monday night in Trophy Club.
Investigators also say they found a stolen car in the parking lot and believe the man had previously stolen that vehicle.
Two women who were with the man are being questioned by investigators. Those women had previously told officers that the man was armed.
Customers and workers of the restaurant were all safely evacuated and traffic was not impacted.
