Small business owners are hoping you don't forget the little guy this weekend.

After shoppers flock to the mall and large retail chains on Black Friday, many are hoping customers participate in "Small Business Saturday."

"In order to compete with the big boys," said Suzanne Roberts, who owns her own store, Suzanne Roberts Inc., in Snider Plaza in University Park.

Roberts said she can't offer the big discounts like major stores, but to lure customers into the store, she is offering something.

"Our special is nothing like theirs. At 20% off, that's a big special for us," Roberts said.

Vickie Brown, who owns Love Tennis, also in Snider Plaza, is doing the same thing.

"Right now, we are having a sale. We moved it up just about three weeks. We usually do it just before Christmas, but we thought for Small Business Saturday we were going to offer 75-percent off of past seasons of Stella McCartney and Adidas is 30-percent off," Brown said.

Both women said it's important for shoppers to remember small businesses in order to support the local economy.

They also point out customers won't have to deal with the hassle of long lines and crowded aisles.

"It's so intimate with the customer and we have our clientele base where we get to know the customers one-on-one. So it's not just a come in and shop. We really get to know you," Brown said.

Fort Worth Displays Its Parade of Lights

Thousands prepare to turn the lights on in Downtown Fort Worth.

Sundance Square has the Christmas Spirit.

On Friday, Sundance Square hosted the Fort Worth Parade of Lights. Thousands of people crowded the streets to get a look at more than 100 floats decorated with lights.

But the big draw was a big tree. Santa Claus came into town to help light up a 55-foot blue spruce tree from Michigan decorated with ornaments.

Based on reaction from kids in the crowd, the event was a hit.

"We get to see the tree light up, and we get to see, we get to see Santa!" said an excited Kaila Delane of Irving. "It's my first time, but I kind of like it. It's like New York."

Hundreds of people waited in line to pose for a picture with Santa and the tree. Pictures are $7 and benefit charity.

Special Needs Teen Reported Missing

Police need your help finding Keon Tavaras Fields. He stands 6 01 and weighs 165 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Haltom City Police have located a missing teen unharmed. Keon Tavaras Fields, 18, was located while walking towards his family's former apartment in Fort Worth His family is in the process of moving.

Fields attends Eastern Hills High School in Fort Worth. Police said Fields has been diagnosed with intellectual disability. He is not able to remember numbers and easily gets lost.

Fields' mother says he is on medication to help him sleep. On Saturday, in the midst of moving to their new home at a Haltom City mobile park, she forgot to give him his medication. On Sunday morning, he was gone.

"I can't forget anything, not even one pill, you know one pill makes the difference in whether he's safe or not," said Cindy Ssekitto, his mother.

Now that he is home, Ssekitto admits she needs help in managing her son.

"I love my son, I want to take responsibility for my son, it's just I know he needs help, I definitely need help," said Ssekitto.

This is the second time this month that Fields has disappeared. On November 6, he left his family's home. He was found 24 hours later in the waiting area at Ophthalmology and Associates in downtown Fort Worth. Staff members at the eye doctor's office near Summit and Lancaster avenues contacted police after recognizing him from reports on NBC 5.

N.Y. Hiring 5,000 Locals for Sandy Cleanup

More than 5,000 New Yorkers will be hired for temporary government jobs cleaning up after Sandy, officials said Sunday.

About $27 million in federal Labor Department money will finance the cleanup and rebuilding positions in New York City and eight nearby counties, paying about $15 per hour and generally lasting about six months, state and federal officials said.

Separately, the state and the Federal Emergency Management Agency are working to put New Yorkers into more than 700 temporary FEMA jobs, some as administrative assistants and community relations workers.

"This is a neighbors-helping-neighbors effort," state Labor Commissioner Peter Rivera said at a news conference in Red Hook, a Brooklyn neighborhood flooded by Sandy's surge. Gov. Andrew Cuomo called it "a chance to provide young and unemployed New Yorkers with job opportunities cleaning up their communities."

The crisis-turned-opportunity message wasn't lost on K'Reese Cole, one of two dozen or more people who lined up after Sunday's announcement to submit applications at a disaster relief center in Red Hook. So far, more than 800 people from across the state have applied, officials said.

Cole, who's lived in Red Hook all his 32 years, works various jobs in demolition and construction.

"Now I'm trying to work with the cleanup effort out here because we did lose a lot in the community," said Cole, a rapper who also goes by the name Tru Born.

Plus, he said, a government job — even a temporary one — could represent a steppingstone to steady work for him and many of his neighbors in Red Hook. The venerable dock and warehouse area includes one of the nation's biggest public housing complexes, along with artists' studios and accoutrements of urban bohemia.

Some residents of the public housing development, the Red Hook Houses, were without electricity or heat for about two weeks after the Oct. 29 storm.

While the floods have receded and the lights are back on, lingering needs were still visible Sunday in a community where many were struggling before the storm.

A block away from the disaster aid center where the jobs announcement was made, members of the Lighthouse Seventh Day Adventist Church set up a table in a park and served free Jamaican-style stew chicken, rice and peas and other dishes. First Elder Dennis McCurchin estimated 500 people were served.

Back at the disaster center, Mickey Reid submitted a job application and looked with surprised appreciation at the cluster of officials eager to take it.

"The need was here all along," said Reid, 58, a vice president of a tenants' association in the Red Hook Houses. "Since the storm came, these things actually happen now."

RAW VIDEO: Hurst Police Arresting Teen In Park

A Hurst Police officer is caught on camera cursing a teen who another officer already had on the ground on Wednesday in Bellaire Park.

Kelly Pope wants a Hurst police officer off the force.

Pope is the mother of 17-year-old Andrew Rodriguez who says the officer, who identified himself on cell phone video as "Arnold 654," used excessive force against her son.

Describing the YouTube video of the incident, Pope said, "He comes up at a jolting sprint, kneed him [Rodriguez] in the back of the head and as you can see on the video says, 'If you move I"m gonna [expletive] you up.'

Rodriguez's friend recorded the incident or at least the last five minutes of it and uploaded it on YouTube.

"Sit down. Shut the [expletive] up. Don't say nothing else," said Officer Arnold while Rodriguez was still on the ground.

"He's okay," said Pope of her son. "He doesn't want any part of anything. He's a little embarrassed."

Pope said she'll go to the Hurst Police Department Monday hoping to talk directly with Police Chief Steve Moore about this officer.

"I would like that guy off the force," Pope said.

Hurst Police gave NBC 5 this statement on the matter:

"This is not behavior that the city of Hurst promotes or condones in any way. We strive to build a stronger, safer community through our work around the city and will continue to do so through appropriate action. The incident will be investigated internally."
